NEW - Local Workforce Development Plan draft open for public comment
After many months of planning, the Olympic Workforce Development Council released a draft of the Olympic Consortium Workforce Development Plan and invites the public to review and provide input. Public comment will be accepted through May 31, 2016.

Tony Ventrella headlines Kitsap's 25th annual Older Americans Conference May 18
May is nationally recognized as Older Americans Month. In its honor, Kitsap County’s Division of Aging and Long-Term Care, in cooperation with the Long-Term Care Alliance, is hosting the 25th annual 2016 Older American Conference, which takes place 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 18th at the Bremerton Elks Lodge, 4131 Pine Road NE, Bremerton. Registration begins at 8 a.m. This year’s conference, which is free and open to the public, focuses on “Your Silver Lining – Blaze A Trail.”

National Correctional Officers and Employees Week
During the week of May 1-7 the Kitsap County Sheriff's Office observes and acclaims National Correctional Officers and Employees Week. "Corrections officers have the difficult assignment of ensuring the custody, safety and well-being of those persons incarcerated in the Kitsap County Jail," said Sheriff Gary Simpson. "Their position is essential to the day-to-day operation of this facility.  Without them it would be impossible to achieve our foremost goals of security and safety."

Clear Creek Trail Closures Coming May 1, 2016
Beginning May 1 several sections of the Clear Creek Trail will be closed to conduct floodplain restoration work and install three new foot bridges. The entire project areas, just north of Waaga Way, will be closed to public access for safety concerns.

Community discussion on crime prevention, fireworks at Kingston meeting May 4
Kitsap County Sheriff Gary Simpson and North Kitsap Fire and Rescue Chief Dan Smith will discuss crime prevention and address fireworks concerns at the next meeting of the Kingston Citizens Advisory Council, which takes place May 4, 7-8:30 p.m.
