NEW - Run to Tahoma memorial dedicated July 8
Join the Kitsap County Veterans Advisory Board, County Commissioners, veterans service organizations, guests, and the public on July 8 for the dedication of The Unforgotten, Run to Tahoma Memorial. The program will begin at 6 p.m. in the Commissioners’ Chambers of the County Administration Building, located at 619 Division Street, Port Orchard.

NEW - Agriculture code proposal Open House and Planning Commission hearing set for July 7
Kitsap County's Department of Community Development is holding a Public Open House regarding a proposed agricultural code on July 7, 2015 at 4:15 pm in the Commissioners Chambers of the Kitsap County Administration Building (619 Division Street, Port Orchard). The Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on the proposed code at 5:30 after the Open House.

Aging and Long Term Care announces 2016-2019 Area Plan Survey
Every four years, Kitsap County Division of Aging and Long Term Care, your Area Agency on Aging, develops an Area Plan that describes funding priorities and array of services that will be provided to support older adults and adults with disabilities who are living in the community. Your response to this survey will help with the development of the 2016-2019 Area Plan for Kitsap County.

Bucklin Hill Road closes July 1
Bucklin Hill Road, between Blaine Avenue NW and Mickelberry Road NW, closes to pedestrian and vehicular traffic July 1. The road remains closed until the completion of the Bucklin Hill Bridge project in Silverdale scheduled for August 2016. Now is the time to “Scout Your Route” around the construction zone to reduce congestion.

County Commissioners issue emergency ordinance banning sky lanterns
The Kitsap County Board of County Commissioners passed an ordinance to eliminate the use of sky lanterns at their regular meeting yesterday. “Sky lanterns are a beautiful way to celebrate,” said Dave Lynam, County Fire Marshal, “but they present a very real and dangerous fire risk.”

According to the Washington State Patrol, Office of the State Fire Marshal, reports that in 2014 there was over $320,000 in property loss in the state of Washington. The state also reported 277 injuries, 2 deaths and over 150 fires directly related to fireworks in 2014. The majority of firework related injuries were caused by legal fireworks including mortars and sparklers.

Public comment sought on Pt. Gamble Forest Heritage Park management plan and classification system
Public comment is now being accepted on the draft Port Gamble Forest Heritage Park Resource Stewardship & Public Access Management Plan that will serve as the model and provide structure for similar plans created for other county parks.

Puget Sound officials announce ban on outdoor burning
Fire marshals in Kitsap, Mason, Pierce, Snohomish and King county are planning to set a Phase 1 burn ban beginning 8:00 a.m. on Monday 6/22. The burn ban is being set due to continuing dry weather and above normal fire risk for this time of year.

County Parks Department seeks volunteers for Anderson Point Park
With the reopening of Anderson Point Park, the Kitsap County Parks Department is seeking volunteers to assist with the maintenance and upkeep of this beautiful park. Volunteer projects may include removal of invasive weeds and replanting with native vegetation, repair of the park kiosk, and general park clean-ups. The parks department will also appreciate park volunteers being extra eyes and ears on the park.

Advocates are needed for the Washington State Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program in Kitsap County, made up of a group of highly trained community volunteers who advocate for long-term care facility residents and their families, assisting them in achieving the highest level of quality of life and quality of care, a right guaranteed by law.
